Sushi bar (by the family)

This is our local sushi bar by the Miyagi COOP supermarket in Sendai. We were sushi lovers already back in Finland, but have now realised that the sushi we had before was nothing like the sushi we have had here. It's also so much cheaper here, especially at sushi bars like this one, but the fancier sushi restaurants in Japan are really expensive...

The first challenge was understanding how it all worked as the restaurant had a revolving conveyer belt, showcasing some of the dishes. You could take these dishes to taste them (obviously not for free, though 😅), and then place an order to the sushi chef. Once we learnt how everything worked, and even learnt to place our orders with the separate order sheets in hiragana/katakana, the sushi world became our oyster (excuse the pun).

We have tried fish that we have never seen before. And some of these haven't been that delicious 😅.. The sushi is priced by plates, so there are different coloured plates, and at the end the total sum of the plates is calculated. We usually go for the 100-170 yen plates as most of our favourites are in those categories. This is definitely our favourite fast food restaurant in Sendai!

Unfortunately our son isn't a keen sushi eater so every time he is out with his friends the rest of the family goes here! During peak times (i.e. dinner and lunch times, especially the weekends) you need to queue to get a table, but we are really used to it by now as that's the way that it goes here. The funny thing is that back in Finland queuing for an hour to get a table (especially at a fast food joint) would be unheard of, and you would look for another restaurant, but here it is the norm and it really doesn't bother us 😅 we are so used to it already.
