Maid cafe, Purikura, Meiji Jingu, Imperial Palace, Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Tower and Zōjō-ji-temple... (by Taru)

We had a visitor from Finland so the whole family decided to go and spend some time with her in Tokyo at the end of February. We booked a hotel from the Omori -area, which was really nice as the hotel price was decent (as decent as it can get in Tokyo as hotel prices are high...) and access around Tokyo was easy enough from the close by Omori train station.

I had written a long list of things to do, but as there is just too much to see in Tokyo, we only got to do or see a small part of it. I also fell ill during the week so I had to visit the doctor while there. Just a flu but I lost my voice totally, although the rest of the family were pretty much relieved 😅 by it. We found the American Clinic Tokyo and booked an appointment with a doctor there. I have visited the doctors in Japan already few times with the kids, but this time it was just so easy. So I would highly recommend this place.

We only had 4 full days but managed to see Akihabara and experience a Maid cafe, Harajuku and Purikura, Chiyoda and the Imperial Palace, Minato and the Roppongi; Tokyo Tower; Zōjō-ji-temple and the World Trade Centre, and DisneySea (again.. just for one day though).

Our visitor really wanted to see a Maid cafe while in Japan so when we went to Akihabara we obviously had to visit one. It was nothing that I expected as it was a bit more gimmicky than I thought. Visiting one of those places once is enough, in my view, and I definitely would  not pay for the privilege again (as on top of the things you order, i.e. coffee etc., you need to pay a fee which was 500 yen per person per hour.. and it took them so long to prepare our ice-cream dishes that we got them after the first hour was up.. I think they did it deliberately... So I ended up paying 4000 yen for the four of us...).

We went to the World Trade Centre viewing deck to see the sunset, which was nice (although it was about 400 yen per person, and I know that there are viewing decks for free also, at least the Tokyo Governmental building has one for free).

Harajuku was full of people as it was Sunday when we decided to go there. So walking around was not nice... We did visit one of those picture places (Purikura) while there, and although we had an idea how the machines worked they were mostly in Japanese so there was a lot of frustration as we didn't understand them fully.. Lots of girls having their pictures taken there, and although it was fun, I didn't fully understand the point of it and the picture were really small...

Meiji jingu was just across from the Takeshita -street so we also visited there. What a beautiful place in the heart of Tokyo. My favourite thing was the two trees tied together representing the husband and wife 💕.

We also had a tour around the Imperial Palace grounds.  It is amazing how such a historical place is so close to the hub of Tokyo.  Another striking thing was the modesty of the place itself yet its perfect fit into the surrounding nature.  The tour is the only way to see it but to be honest you really don't get to see much as it is just the grounds.

Roppongi Hills was an interesting place in terms of cultural sights such at these sculptures below, be prepared for stepping into a wind tunnel though as the way the surrounding buildings have been build has turned the main promenade into a man made wind tunnel.
